Perceptions and knowledge regarding quality and safety of plastic materials used for food packaging

Abstract The objective of this study is to investigate the consumer perceptions about quality and safety foods packed in plastic, as well impact plastic materials on human health. To carry out study, a questionnaire survey consumption habits knowledge packaging was conducted sample 487 Portuguese adult citizens. results revealed that most respondents (81%) think food when purchasing foods. Additionally, it found consumer’s toxicity components possibly migrating from still limited (only 46% participants). However, other negative effects plastics known consumers include environmental pollution marine fauna degradation (67 82% participants, respectively). Thus, concluded population need be further educated some chemical compounds present packaging, which can ingested by or absorbed microplastics resulting incorrect disposal.
